Why do they have to call it STAGG®?

The 'STAGG' from the name STAGG® Chili comes from the founder of STAGG - it is basically a family name.

In 1955, Mr. Hirsch founded Rocking K Foods, and in 1980 the company changed its name to STAGG Foods. The STAGG name came about because 'Hirsch' in German means stag (the animal). As the name 'stag' may have caused some confusion (the consumer may have thought there was venison in the chili), the compromise was to add a second g to make it 'stagg'.

Stagg therefore won the approval and became STAGG® Chili.
